About

Louvana Records is a unique indie label founded in 2009. It is one of the few labels worldwide that runs its own studio and oversees the production of all the records it releases. Since 2009 it has released seven studio albums that were successful in the Greek / Cypriot region, always appearing on the best albums lists at the end of the year. Gearing up for its 10-year anniversary, the label is preparing for a number of new releases; amongst them, the brilliant Berlin-based singer-songwriter Eleni Era, contemporary classical guitarist Kostas Makrygiannakis, the explosive ‘Cretan music from hell’ London-based trio, Balothizer, as well as a compilation of the best Louvana-affiliated international artists. Also slated for its anniversary celebrations, Louvana Records is looking to share what has been brewing in its pot over the last ten years with the rest of the world.

Louvana Records’ founders, musician / producer Lefteris Moumtzis and sound engineer / producer Andreas Trachonitis realised early on that in order to stir things up and make a real change in their native Cyprus, the public had to be exposed to more and different kinds of live music. And so, they started organising two music festivals shortly after putting the label together. Fengaros Festival and Lefkosia Loop Festival in the last eight years have presented more than 220 acts of various styles from all over the world! These acts include Fantastic Negrito, Joan As Police Woman, Deerhoof, Joss Stone, Tootard, Xylouris White, Soccer96, A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Banda Magda, MC Xander, Larry Gus, Trio Tekke and Electric Jalaba. Along with presenting top-notch international acts, their philosophy is to host and support the cream of the crop of the Greek and Cypriot scenes.

Early days: Louvana started as a monthly event in South London in 2006, promoted by a young Moumtzis who was looking to bring interesting independent acts together to create a more organic and vibrant scene in the area. The Louvana events lasted till the autumn of 2008 when Moumtzis left London for Cyprus, while many of the acts that had performed at those events, including The Invisible, Micachu & The Shapes and others, went on to have successful careers.
