Lush strings, jangly guitars, exotica-tinged organs, and the husky vocals of celebrated Greek artist Fotis Siotas cooning through the theme song ‘Skouria Kai Meli’: this track is just one piece from the extensive collection of music all written by Cypriot producers Andreas Trachonitis and Lefteris Moumtzis exclusively for the soundtrack of brand new TV series ‘Meliartos’ by actor-screenwriter Loris Loizides’ and director Theodosis Economides. With lyrics by Stavrous Stavrou, ‘Skouria Kai Meli’ sees Trachonitis and Moumtzis reunite with longtime friend Siotas who had previously collaborated with Louvana Records as frontman of his rock band Sotires (Σωτήρες).
The Meliartos score nods to the silver screen soundtracks of Mimis Plessas and Mikis Theodorakis. References to Hiotis, rebetiko, Sinatra and Greek teddy-boy (“teddyboides”) shake and garage rock were a starting point for Trachonitis and Moumtzis, resulting in a retro sonic timewarp laced with overdriven bouzouki solos, sauve organ melody lines, and velvet smooth orchestrations to accompany Meliartos’ nostalgic storyline.
