Ten Years:
One of Cyprus’ longest-running, most active, and internationally successful record labels, Louvana Records, is celebrating its tenth anniversary by premiering its new project: Evdomada Louvana
this November. Set in multiple venues across its home base in Nicosia, Evdomada Louvana will see the label doing what it knows best: presenting concerts by both past and present Louvana Records artists plus affiliated acts, as well as educational masterclasses and open discussions, mirroring the label’s history in providing educational arts workshops - all topped off with a week-long audio-visual exhibition and a specially published smart book documenting Louvana Records 10-year history, an important part in Cyprus’ twenty-first century music culture.
Running from 16-23 November, Evdomada Louvana will kick off with its inaugural exhibition, curated by Orestis Kalvaris and set at Prozak, presenting photographic material, videos, posters and audio documents. A specially-published smart book, curated by the writer and journalist Eleni Xenou, that traces the history and works of Louvana Records over its ten-year span will also premiere during Evdomada Louvana. Sunday 17.11 and Tuesday 19.11 will see a series of Masterclasses and Open Discussions aimed at facilitating a creative dialogue. Instructors and curators will include Fotis Siotas (Sancho 003, Sotires, Papakonstantinou, Malamas), Marios Takoushis
(composer; ‘Need for Speed; Hot Pursuit’, BBC and Channel 4 (UK), Mighty Sugarcane), Michalis Karakatsanis
(Cyprus Music Information Centre), Panayiotis Georgiou
(frontman of Arcadian Child), Antonis Antoniou
(frontman of multi award-winning and internationally successful folk trio Monsieur Doumani), and will be held at Ethniko Odio Kyprou. The masterclasses and open discussions are open to musicians, producers, arts professionals and cultural managers.

Customarily, Louvana Records will be hosting multiple concerts during the celebratory week, spread across notable Nicosia venues ARTos Foundation, Theatro Dentro and Prozak. Artists will include the world-renowned ‘Queen of the Balkans’ Martha Mavroidi
premiering a brand new project with Giorgos Ventouris
and Ioannis Papadopoulos; Lefkosia Loop Festival favourites, Bunty
and Sancho 003; intimate sets from Freedom Candlemaker
(Lefteris Moumtzis); long-time associate, classical guitarist Kostas Makrygiannakis; a long-awaited throwback live concert by Stelafi
(fronted by actress/singer Stela Fyrogeni), as well as more recent partnerships made through past Fengaros Festival lineups: dream pop artist Nalyssa Green; young singer-songwriter Náma, as well as two Cypriot acts, Larva, and a duet by artists Vassilis Philippou and Giannis Koutis.
Label co-founders Lefteris Moumtzis and Andreas Trachonitis, two young and daring music-lovers (and musicians/producers in their own right) first met after Moumtzis returned to Cyprus from London, where he had been organising and promoting concerts under the name ‘Louvana’ and Trachonitis return from Boston after finishing his studies. When the multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Moumtzis had booked a recording session with musician and producer/sound engineer, Trachonitis at his newly-founded recording facility, Studio eleven63, neither of them had expected that the session would mark the beginning of a partnership that has since exposed Cyprus to over hundreds of international and Cypriot musicians through its festivals and concerts (most famously, Fengaros Festival), and invaluable workshops that have kick-started the careers of multiple young Cypriot musicians and arts creatives. Within its history Louvana Records has established itself as the only organisation in Cyprus that focuses on live, original, popular-music from local independent songwriters, as well as music masterclasses and workshops. The organisation has not only gained recognition from abroad but has cemented its exclusive relationships between Cyprus and foreign industry professionals who are keen on involving Cyprus in Europe’s contemporary, popular, music-culture.
The audience of Louvana Records’ native country is of the utmost importance. Whether a fan purchases every single label release, attends each of its festivals, events or workshops and masterclasses, the impact with which the Louvana Records audience has supported the label’s efforts is extraordinary. The November premiere of Evdomada Louvana holds its audience in an extremely special place in its heart.
